Michelia yunnanensis

Michelia yunnanensis (Michelia yunnanensis)

is a medium sized fully hardy perennial evergreen shrub with white and yellow flowers in late Spring, early Summer, late Summer and mid Summer. It grows well in direct sun and semi-shade, and prefers medium levels of water. The flowers are bowl shaped.

Michelia yunnanensis grows in soils ranging from a pH of 5.5 (very acidic ranges from 5.2 to 5.5) to 7.5 (neutral ranges from 6.6 to 7.5). It is adapted to clay loam, loam, loamy sand, peat, sandy clay, sandy clay loam and sandy loam soils.

Growth

This is a rounded shrub has an ultimate height of 4.5m / 14.8ft and spread of 2.2m / 7.2ft. It can take 11-15 years to reach its ultimate height.

Leaves

It has green leaves. They are oblanceolate in shape.

Exposure

The plant prefers a sheltered situation.

Scent

A strong pleasant scent is emitted from the flower.
