Dianthus myrtinervius

Dianthus myrtinervius (Albanian Pink)

is a fully hardy perennial evergreen alpine with pink flowers in early Autumn, late Summer, mid Autumn and mid Summer. It grows well in direct sun, and prefers medium levels of water. The flowers are rotate shaped. It looks best in Autumn and Summer.

Soil

Dianthus myrtinervius grows in soils ranging from a pH of 6 (acidic ranges from 5.6 to 6) to 8 (slightly alkaline ranges from 7.6 to 8). It is adapted to chalk, clay loam, loam, loamy sand, sandy clay loam and sandy loam soils.

Growth

This is a prostrate plant and has a mat forming growth form, and has an ultimate height of 0.2m / 5.9in and spread of 0.6m / 2ft.

Leaves

It has green leaves. They are linear in shape.

Uses

Alpine, city courtyard garden, container plant, cottage informal garden, flower border and bed, gravel, ground cover, rock garden and coastal/seaside suitable.

Progagation

Propagation techniques include cuttings and seed.

  • If you use slug pellets to control snails don't throw them in one place as the smell of pellets attracts them. The second smaller pair of tentacles on a snail are for smelling. Instead lightly scatter them near the plants you want to protect.
